Purpose
To establish policies and procedures to preserve the security of College computer hardware systems.
Policy
The College shall ensure all computer hardware is secured, either in locked rooms or with other security systems, to prevent hardware loss from theft. All end-user computer systems will be affixed with nonremovable asset tags. The College shall maintain a hardware inventory for identification and retrieval purposes.
Hardware issued to Labouré College of Healthcare employees is checked to assure the device is in acceptable physical condition. Upon return of the hardware, the device is again checked for any physical defects. Physical damage to devices beyond typical “wear and tear” may be escalated to administration for corrective action.
Procedure
Access to the college’s main and secondary data centers are controlled. Access to these keys are tightly controlled by the College Security and Information Technology staff.
Where applicable, each staff person is expected to lock his/her office whenever the office is unattended.
The college maintains an inventory of its computer hardware identifying such things as: serial numbers, asset tags, part descriptions, hardware system combinations and locations.
