Q: Is there a tutorial to show me how to use Brightspace?
A: Yes! Every student has access to the Student Introduction to Brightspace under Announcements. It displays a typical course structure and provides directions, demonstrations, and activities toward the three most commonly required course functions, uploading/downloading documents, discussion forum assignments, and test/quiz taking.
Q: Is there any special software that I need to take an online class?
A: There is! A complete list of hardware and software requirements for Brightspace can be found in the Hardware and Software Requirements page.
Q: Do I need to log in to Brightspace at a specific time for class or can I do it whenever I want?
A: Course design and attendance is determined by your professor and will be outlined in the course syllabus. There is always a time frame within which to complete assignments, but what that time frame is and whether there might be synchronis assignments is up to the professor.
Q: Brightspace will not allow me to upload my assignment, will my assignment be marked late?
A: Make sure you are using a recommended web browser, such as Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome. If you are still not able to upload your assignment, email your professor to alert them of the problem and contact the IT department.
Q: Can I access Brightspace from my cell phone or mobile device?
A: Maybe. There are functions of Brightspace that would prove difficult on a mobile device. It would be hard to upload an assignment or to join an online meeting, or register for courses but you would be able to check a grade or respond to a forum post. Depending on your device, you may be limited in what you can do.
Q: I registered for a course but I do not see it listed under My Courses
A: Courses are added to My Courses 1 week prior to the start of class.
